Julian Thick Looks Forward to his First Grand National
Posted by Stephen
THE views over Aintree Racecourse are among the finest in world sport. A huge expanse stretching towards Becher’s Brook in the distance, beautifully manicured turf and the most famous steeplechase fences in the world.
This weekend sees the first Grand National under the stewardship of Aintree’s new managing director, Julian Thick – and he gazes proudly out of his office window.
It isn’t exactly a sight for sore eyes – construction machinery chugging here and there, sections of partly erected marquee flapping in the wind, scaffolding lying haphazardly around and workmen scurrying past the bolted main gates.
You wouldn’t believe this is the same venue that has had £35m lavished on it in recent years.
