Design a Bench Competition

Posted by Stephen

The Liverpool ECHO, in partnership with the Open Culture Project (created by Phil Redmond) has been running a competition to find a bench design to encapsulate Liverpool’s year as the European Capital of Culture. The final design will be used to make a number of benches which will be located around the city.

The competition has been a tremendous success with hundreds on entires being received. These have now been whittled down to a shortlist of eight and Livepool ECHO readers are being invited to vote for their favourite design to create an even shorter list of two.

The two finalists’ designs will then be prototyped before the final decision is made.

You can view all eight designs online in PDF format here and find out about the voting process here.

For the record, we have voted for Ilsa Parry’s Storyteller bench.

On the Liverpool ECHO website, Ilsa said “Every person has a story to tell, and Scousers tell them best. To read the full story you may have to revisit the resting place many times.”

Streetwaves 2008

Posted by Stephen

Streetwaves is a Culture Company Project that animates and makes use of Liverpool’s neighbourhood areas and Merseyside boroughs, in order to bring young people together to enjoy fantastic locally made music.

Its strength is that there are absolutely no genre restrictions so any musical artist is welcome and no act is either too small or large to get involved. As long as you are aged between 14 and 25 and live in the Merseyside area you are eligible to take part.
