Turner Prize Pulled in Record Breaking Visitors to Tate Liverpool

HOLDING last year’s Turner Prize in Liverpool gave the competition a new lease of life and helped to put Liverpool on the international map, according to the Tate.New figures show that it was the best attended exhibition ever held at the gallery, attract-ing some 72,000 visitors from all over the world during its four-month run.
The exhibition, which featured the work of the four finalists Nathan Coley, Zarina Bhimji, Mike Nelson and eventual winner Mark Wallinger, ran from October 2007 to January 2008.

Exhibition: Art of Portraits and Their Sitters on Show

PORTRAIT sitters will take centre stage in a major new exhibition to celebrate Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture.The exhibition – Characters: The People Behind the Portraits – at the Atkinson Gallery, Southport, will be one of Sefton’s contributions towards the celebrations.
The show is based on portraits in the Atkinson’s own collection and others from collections around the country.

Wags to Riches in Singh Twins’ Vision of the City

EVERYTHING from Wags to the Walker Art Gallery features on a new artwork celebrating Liverpool icons.
The Singh Twins were due to unveil The Pool of Life at the Bluecoat today.
The intricate painting by Wirral-based sisters Amrit and Rabindra Singh will remain on display all year.
It explores Liverpool’s Capital of Culture celebrations in their distinctive style, which combines traditional Indian miniature painting techniques with more contemporary western influences.
