Posted by Stephen
The Neil Campbell Collective Play at The Launch of Sonica Music Web SiteThe NCC will be playing at the launch of the new Sonica music web site at Bumper (Hardman Street, Liverpool) on Thursday 3rd April from 9pm. Also playing that evening will be The Great Northwestern Hoboes, The Mojave Collective and The Grand Architects.
The web site Sonicaonline.co.uk enables artists to sell their tracks using advanced new media technology. Musicians can register with Sonicaonline.co.uk free of charge and start selling their music instantly by uploading tracks and allowing web users to purchase and download their material. Unlike sites like MySpace.com, artists using Sonicaonline.co.uk can name their own price for music they sell through the site as long as it’s more than 25p per track. Many of Neil’s solo tracks and the NCC’s first album ‘3 O’Clcok Sky’ are available for mp3 download at the site.
Songs of Praise Filmed at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral
Posted by Stephen
It may not be everyones cup of tea, but there are enough people still interested in the Songs of Praise style to fill Liverpool’s Metropolitan Cathedral.
The BBC TV show, which is hosted by former choir boy Aled Jones and is televised on a Sunday evening, was recorded in the Cathedral earlier this week. Filming lasted for over three hours and the results will be split into two editions of the programme to be shown later this year.
Songs of Praise is watched by over four million viewers each week and is the longest running religious TV show in the world.

Need A Ticket To Ride?

TransPennine Express has published a microsite to celebrate Liverpool’s year as the Capital of Culture. It offers advice on a whole loads of things to do whilst visiting the city as well places to stay at if you think one day is not enough for you. I guess the main point of the microsite is to promote the train fares to Liverpool, which is fair enough. If you live in or near Leeds, Sheffield, York or Newcastle or you may well be interested to know that the fare to Liverpool is as follows:
- Leeds to Liverpool = £8 (single)
- Sheffield to Liverpool = £8 (single)
- York to Liverpool = £11 (single)
- Newcastle to Liverpool = £18 (single)
Parking in Liverpool (and any major city) can be very expensive these days so taking a train could be a viable alternative. Train travel can certainly take the stress out of navigating your way around a city centre that you do not know and remember, if you don’t drive in, you don’t have to drive home, which means you have have a bevvy in one of Liverpool’s many watering holes.
Liverpoolaroids

Liverpool + Polaroids = Liverpoolaroids. Or, to elaborate further, a project chronicling Polaroid photos of Liverpool - it’s people, places, and *essence* captured through the medium of instant photography. It was one of a plethora of ideas myself and a friend had planned to celebrate the city of Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture 2008. Unfortunately it never really got off the starting blocks due to a lack of time, money, and the fact that we are both notoriously bad at not seeing these kind of things through to the end.

Reaping the Benefit
Posted by Stephen
JUST three months into our year as Capital of Culture, and I think you will agree that we are already reaping the benefits. After the spectacular launch in January, the arts programme really has been hotting up and highlights so far have included the staging of Emilia di Liverpool, the Niki de Saint Phalle exhibition at Tate Liverpool, and the city having the proud honour of hosting this year’s National Holocaust Memorial Day.Yesterday, we had the pleasure of announcing another culture year coup for Liverpool, with the news that the Globe Theatre of London would be coming to Liverpool to perform William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale in St James’ Gardens, in the shadow of the Anglican Cathedral.
